Nicole's family is Peranakan.

Peranakans – aka Baba-Nyonyas or Straits Chinese – make up one of Singapore’s most distinctive cultures. Being extremely proud of her roots, Nicole and her husband had requested for their wedding invitation to vividly reflect the aesthetics of her culture. 

Nicole and Kar Heng's wedding invitation design was inspired by the colors and traditional floral prints used on the baju kurungs (dresses) and beaded shoes of the Nyonyas.
